RE: AMORAN, DEFRAUDS OGUN STATE GOVERNMENT

RE: AMORAN, DEFRAUDS OGUN STATE GOVERNMENT

The attention of Ogun State AMORAN has been drawn to a vilifying publication making rounds the media where Ogun State Articulated Motorcycle Owners Association of Nigeria led by Otunba Nurudeen Aina were accused of corruption, misappropriation of funds and printing of fake tickets.

Ordinarily, the Leadership of AMORAN won't respond to accusations of this magnitude as such statement emanates from haters, enemies of progress and devil's incarnates who are out to cause discord and to ruin the good relationship that exists between Ogun State government and AMORAN.

To set the records straight, the leadership of AMORAN led by Otunba Aina, Otunba Sokoya and others will never indulge in activities that will bring distrust to their individual names built over the years, hence the need to set the records straight and to avoid a faceless group of haters from misleading the general public.

Furthermore, on 25th July, 2020, the leadership of AMORAN investigated a case of a member of State Executives who was found culpable in a disgraceful act of printing inferior tickets. Indeed he was caught in the act and immediately handed over to the Police for further interrogation, investigation and litigation process.  "We are amazed to read a faceless person(s) feeding the public with unfounded rumours, Alowonle stated"

Obey traffic rules and avoid reckless driving, AMORAN urges Okada riders in Ogun

The Articulate Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN) in Ogun State has implored the commercial motorcycle riders otherwise known as 'Okada Riders' to inculcate the habit of obeying traffic rules and avoid reckless driving to save lives.

Otunba Nurudeen Aina Alowonle, the State Chairman of the Union, gave this advice in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on Sunday, 19th of July, 2020.

'Members of our union and okada riders in general should always observe traffic rules and regulations and avoid reckless driving, over speeding and wrongful overtaking to avoid unnecessary accidents.

In as much as we all agree that human life has no duplicate, one should try as much as possible to protect the one he/she has.  The manner in which some okada riders over speed and overtake wrongfully is alarming and worrisome, thereby causing accidents leading to loss of lives. This is abnormal. The traffic laws should also be obeyed.  In the quest to make more money and meet a certain daily target, many of the Okada riders are always in a hurry.

They mindlessly disobey the traffic rules in order to reach their destination within the shortest period of time. This is not too good', Alowonle said.

The Chairman further said that the union is committed to acquainting its members on the imperative of traffic regulations to achieve safety.  He also warned riders to keep of expressways, describing it as a dangerous route for them.

'Like our amiable Governor said some days ago, Okada riders are to move passengers from interior parts of a town to the major roads. However, some of them put their own lives at risk by moving to expressways. This is very risky and many lives has been lost. It is suicidal to the rider and passenger. In the course of struggling to earn a means of livelihood, may we not meet untimely death.  Let's take precautions', he stated.

Of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun and Governance Pace by Kunle Somorin

There is a reason intellectuals avoid sweeping generalizations, prefacing their submissions with checks such as ‘perhaps.’ As people who mean to be taken seriously, they are aware that their postulations are necessarily limited by their own exposure and knowledge, and that, in simple terms, they cannot assume too much. This “intellectual caution,” if you like, is a necessary ingredient of enlightened discourse, be it a newspaper article, a government policy briefing or an academic paper. Sadly, the piece, ‘Much ado about Abiodun’s ‘slow’ governance in Ogun,” published in the July 12 edition of The Guardian, lacks intellectual caution. It dresses the Ogun State governor in the robes of a villain and, for good measure, allows a well-known rabble rouser in the opposition unfettered freedom to articulate his usual bigotry. Although we find a single positive view of the governor which is discarded forthwith, interspersed with the views of the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, such views are just there to take up space.

According to the writer, “two months into his second year in office as governor, the people of Ogun State have begun to express worry over Prince DapoAbiodun’s alleged sluggish approach to governance.” These “people of Ogun State” are, of course, the writer himself, together with two disgruntled elements. This is the research population, the people of Ogun State! There is no traditional ruler, business executive or academic of note or trader to express any view. Although there is a voice of reason in the immediate past chairman, Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) and chairman of the Labour Party (LP),  Comrade Arabambi Abayomi, who warns that “you can’t successfully compare a government that is performing and developing each and all sectors to a government of a mono-sector performance. Amosun was active in developing only roads in exclusively one senatorial zone, while Dapo has been creditably acknowledged across the state as a governor performing very well and commendably in virtually all the sectors of government,” his opinion  is promptly discarded.

The truth, quite simply, is that even with the ravaging Covid-19 pandemic of the last six months, which the piece carefully avoids mentioning, Ogun has been one of the stand-out states, as acknowledged by President Muhammadu Buhari himself when he gave support to Lagos and Ogun states for the efforts to combat the pandemic.  The state has been turned into a construction site and it is simply because of this that some members of the opposition, intent on political mileage ahead of 2023, strive day and night to diminish Governor Abiodun’s personality and government.

The piece in question haughtily dismisses the road construction efforts in Ogun State, but as many are no doubt aware, Governor Dapo Abiodun has taken the gospel of road construction to every nook and cranny of Ogun State, jettisoning the mere window dressing of state capitals to which many a governor is prone in this clime. This is the kernel of the submissions by the LP chairman in the piece under reference. Today in Ogun, hitherto neglected communities, especially the so-called "remote areas" that had hardly ever seen anything more than campaigns during electioneering, are now experiencing real governance. It is a fact that in the last one year, the total length of new roads construction is 87km, out of which 20.35km had been completed. The total length of rehabilitation carried out is 68km. The roads include: Obantoko road, Idi Aba- Elite-Oke Lantoro, Abeokuta; Abeokuta-Sagamu Interchange, Ikola/Navy-Osi Ota Road; Raypower Road, Ota, State Hospital, Ilaro Internal Road Network; Ota Owode-Idiroko; Molipa-Fusigboye-Ojofa Street, Ijebu-Ode; Asafa Oke-Asafa Isale-Ayegun- Ojofa Street, Ijebu-Ode; Bright Fashion Baruwa Street, Sagamu; Hospital Road, Sagamu; Oba Erinwole Dual Carriageway, Oru-Awa-Alaporu-Ibadan; Adigbe Bridge, Ikoritameje-Adenrele/Olose Titun-Vespa, Ifo, Iberekodo General Hospital Internal Road, Abeokuta, Iperu Ilishan, Sagamu Iperu Ode, Siun Ogere. Indeed, a great milestone was reached when Prince Abiodun flagged off the construction of the 14-kilometer Ijebu-Ode-Epe road. The road, which lies at the border area and connects Ogun to Lagos, Nigeria’s economic capital, has special features, including a dual-carriageway with 10 lanes, four on each side, with one pull-out section, and a 14-lane toll plaza for easy payment of tolls.

In consonance with our inclusive governance principle, we received buy-in from stakeholders within the communities before embarking on roads – either for reconstruction or rehabilitation – or any other project for that matter. The long abandoned link roads to Lagos was stakeholders’ Number One choice at the State Industrial nerve centre, Ota. Today, the Ikola/Navy-Osi and Raypower have earned the State respect for their excellence of design, drainages, streetlights and other furniture that would make them endure all the worst of seasons. The story is similar in all the other projects we have done and are doing. So, is the writer in question describing the same Ogun that everyone world knows or another?

In just one year, the Abiodun administration resuscitated the construction equipment rental company, Plant Gate. It established, for the first time in the state’s history, a Power and Energy Board carrying out, among others, procurement and installation of transformers to communities across the State. It established Ogun TechHubs as centres for incubation and innovation for tech start-ups, skills acquisition. Indeed, following the first edition of a competition tagged Governor’s Challenge, a number of innovative ICT solutions that immediately received support for further refinement and commercial development, emerged. Two awards by the Federal Ministry of Digital Economy and Communication – Best State in ICT Penetration and 2nd position in ICT Human Capital Development, testify to Governor Abiodun’s efforts to make Ogun Nigeria’s ICT hub.

In the area of health, the administration rehabilitated two General Hospitals, one in Abeokuta and the other in  Ilaro, with work ongoing in  236 Primary Healthcare Centres. It recruited 82 health workers, including resident doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals in various cadres into the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, and 56 others across the other state health facilities. It immunised almost 1.3 million children against polio, undertook regular medical outreach offering free medical examination, including free eye glasses, immunisation, blood pressure and sugar level checks, Hepatitis counselling and vaccination, providing life-saving intervention to 8,000 women. It upgraded select State Hospitals to provide Prevention of HIV from Mother to Child (PMTCT) and Anti-retroviral Therapy (ART) services; purchased new collection of medical equipment, including a dialysis machine, mobile digital x-ray machine, high resolution ultrasound machine, new intensive care beds, twelve new ventilators, eight CPAP machines, 10 new ambulances and logistics trucks.

To contain the coronavirus pandemic, the Abiodun administration established five treatment and Isolation Centres for COVID-19 patients at Ikenne, Sagamu and Abeokuta. It set up a Molecular Laboratory at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, (OOUTH) Sagamu, the first Molecular Laboratory solely funded by a state in Nigeria, with capacity for 150 tests a day, together with the first COVID-19 Mobile Laboratory in Nigeria with the capacity to run 450 tests a day, at the intended 250-bed hospital at Abeokuta. It provided COVID-19 Drive-Through and Walk-In Testing Centres equipped with a specially designed protective glass enclosure preventing medical personnel collecting samples from getting infected. It completed the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) floor of the 250-bed Hospital at Abeokuta, with a capacity for 18 available beds; and renovated two General Hospitals and 20 selected PHCs, to serve as first responders to cases of COVID-19. It reviewed Hazard Allowance to health workers by 300 per cent, and enrolled over 8,000 health workers in a life insurance scheme.

In the area of housing, the Abiodun administration, in the year  under review, constructed Prince Court Estate at Kemta, Abeokuta, an affordable housing project with a plan for 450 units. Already, 135 units have been delivered in the first phase. King’s Court Estate Development project at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta is a 23-unit of 2 and 3 bedroom affordable bungalows at Laderin Estate under our Civil Servants Scheme. The Dapo-Abiodun Administration undertook downward review of the selling price for the 3 bedroom flats and 2 bedroom flats at the A.A.K. Degun Estate situated in Laderin, Abeokuta and ensured the relaxation of terms and condition of sale of the units, including the reduction of interest rate from 18 per cent to 6 per cent. What’s more, this Government has also commenced work on the predecessors projects that are considered priorities and considered impactful as recommended by the review committee that was set up to those contracts awarded in the twilight of the previous Administration and in almost all, this Government has been negotiating and mobilizing the contractors back to site and they are all on site. Seeing Government as a continuum was dusted when all projects were abandoned by succeeding ones, irrespective of their social relevance and economic imperatives. We challenge the author of the piece under reference to fact-check these claims and in good conscience draw a line and not blood.

In education, among others, the government resolved the crisis over the status of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic and the intended Moshood Abiola University of Technology, as well as the perennial crisis at the Tai Solarin College of Education, Omu-Ijebu. It brought the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Ojere-Abeokuta, back on its feet, with a good number of employed staff, matriculated students, robust IGR, conducive ecosystem of caterers, traders, artisans and community working in harmony. It renovated and reconstructed 95 public schools fitted with modern corrugated roofs, furniture, halls and modern toilet facilities across the state, being firmly committed to providing similar structures and facilities for at least one school in each of our 236 wards. It also set up a Government Delivery Unit for Education, cleared the backlog of 10,000 teaching non-teaching staff promotion exercise for 2016/2017, undertook foreign capacity building for school administrators, ensured technology-based human development for our teachers, inducted a total of 132 principals, 122 vice principals and 4 zonal secretaries to fill the deficit the administration met across secondary schools in the state. This is hardly the hallmark of a slow administration.

The Abiodun administration understands the centrality of Government in providing a conducive policy climate for businesses to thrive. In one year, it established a Business Environment Council as a one stop shop for those wanting to start invest in Ogun, where land applications, permits etc will be facilitated without red tape. It sets up Enterprise Development Agency (EDA) for capacity building and facilitation of financing access to support the MSME sector, and initiated a creative arts and entertainment hub to bolster the primacy of the State as the Nation’s Number One Industrial hub. It implemented the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) for budget preparation, set up a Fiscal Responsibility Commission, established the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Office, implemented staff biometrics and payroll audit and created the Bureau of Public Procurement Council. It is indeed a tribute to Abiodun’s genius that despite inheriting N221.55 bn debts and expending over N15bn on servicing debts incurred by previous administrations, he is not owing workers’ salaries.

Is it not the same man that absorbed about 2,000 ASCON entrants who were supposedly employed but without files into the civil service record, and paid the outstanding 9-month areas in one fell swoop? That same ‘slow man’ re-instated unionists that were unfairly sacked by his predecessor and in February 2020 alone, recruited 1,000 people from across all 20 LGAs into the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA). His direct Labour Policy alone has benefitted 400 youth artisans who were recruited across crafts (plumbing, electrical and building) for the State Ministry of Housing's Building Programme.

Governor Abiodun’s strides in the last one year are too numerous to list here. There is no conceivable justification for Gbenga Akinfenwa’s “unkindest cut.” We suppose that having summoned the Bard of Avon, William Shakespeare, in his title (‘Much ado about..”), he will at least have the courage to admit the errors in his postulations.

Lockdown Easing : AMORAN BOT Chairman enjoins transport unions on strict adherence to guidelines

ABEAOKUTA - The Board of trustee Chairman of Articulate Motorcycle Riders and Owners Association of Nigeria (AMORAN) in Ogun State, Alh. Wale Ajiboye popularly known as MTN, has called on members of the Union and indeed, the general public to stay put to the safety measures reeled out by government and health authorities towards curbing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic as they return to their day to day activities for the first time in more than six weeks after stringent measures were imposed.

Ajiboye in his statement, explained that the people must realise that compliance has a direct bearing with their own safety and that of their loved ones.

'I wish to appeal to members of various transport unions in Ogun State, AMORAN in particular and the general public to strictly adhere to the set safety measures and existing guidelines by the State government to combat COVID-19.

The wearing of face masks is still mandatory. Also, only one passenger is still allowed for motorcycles. The 8.00pm to 6.00am curfew is still in place too. Our members are enjoined to take keen note of this even while discharging their duties, to avoid violating any of the guidelines as anyone caught would be met with appropriate penalties. We should realise that the easing of the lockdown is not a license to believe the disease is over', Ajiboye said.

Finally, he assured that the leadership of the Union is brainstorming on setting up a task force across the twenty local government areas in the State, which will ensure the proper enforcement of these guidelines. He said this would be done to complement the efforts of the State government bringing violators of fhe guidelines to book.

Alhaji Wale Ajiboye (MTN) is the former Boss of Articulate Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN) in Ogun State and the incumbent BOT Chairman of the Union.

The leadership of youth of Ogun State under the aegis of National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ogun State Chapter, has applauded innumerable gestures of Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration in the State.

COVID-19 LOCKDOWN: NYCN URGES OGUN STATE GOVT TO EXTEND RELIEF MATERIALS TO THE YOUTHS

April 14, 2020.

His Excellency,
Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun, MFR
Governor of Ogun State

COVID-19 LOCKDOWN: EXTEND RELIEF SUPPORT TO THE YOUTHS OR END LOCKDOWN NOW!

We bring you greetings from the leadership of youth of Ogun State.

2. We empathize with you on the burden of governance, particularly at this trying times and the continued dedication to the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.

3. While identifying with the efforts of your government, it is noteworthy to express the disappointments of millions of our youths on the continued negligence to our welfare despite being the largest group of constituents.

4. You will recall that of all different structures of our society, It is only the youth constituency, sequel to the directive of the leadership of NYCN Ogun State, that embarked on massive sensitization of citizens of Ogun State in different communities across the twenty (20) local governments. Additionally, it is this same set that redistribute themselves into different smaller units to continue intra community sensitization during the lockdown. it is regrettable that the welfare of these same youths who put their safety on the line will still not find respite in your batches of relief support.

5. Your Excellency, it seems necessary to remind you that majority of these same youths left without support are the small Business Owners, Okada riders, Butchers, Artisans, Traders, etc who depend on daily earnings for their means of survival, and that of their families. Our young people are no longer finding it comfortable to keep confidence and hope in a future assured somewhere.

6. It is therefore unnecessary to state that hunger is a respecter of no man. And it is only after a good meal that one can find the heart to forgive anyone, including one's kinsman.

7. May you be informed that since your assumption of office, the fruits of your several efforts towards ensuring the welfare of youth in Ogun State does not commensurate with the resilient support that you received from the largest constituency since your assumption of office with the #BuildingOurFutureAgenda.

8. Needless to mention that the worrisome rate of criminal upsurge, as recently witnessed in our communities, has relation to the state of hopelessness that our people have been subjected to. We do not find it progressive of any government to continue deny more vulnerable youths access to relief items.

9. In our acts of magnanimity and empathy in accommodating your government so far, aside our efforts in sensitizing communities across the state, our leadership have also initiated a charity fund, among ourselves, to support thousands of vulnerable youths. These are part of what we have been doing to subdue  agitations among the youths since the commencement of this lockdown.

10. Although, we probably may be touching more lives compared to those enjoying the largesse of your government. It is however disheartening that the total number of our beneficiaries still remains ridiculous compared to the population of the entire youths in dire need.

11. In view of the above observations, and the recent declaration of additional two (2) weeks of lockdown, we are compelled to call on your government, as a matter of urgency, to engage the leadership of the youths for immediate provision of relief items and other needful within the next seventy-two (72) hours.

12. Upon the expiration of this seventy-two (72) hours deadline, the youth leadership may withdraw further support to your government and mobilize all available resources to end the continued imprisonment and negligence of the welfare of our industrious youths whose daily means of livelihood remains grounded with no support worthy of giving temporary relief.

13. Furthermore, a Press Conference shall be organized to charge our youths to begin go about their daily businesses without any fear of intimidation. No government should prevent her people's means of livelihood, and still deny them of movements; such position is not only suicidal but also criminal for any right thinking leadership.

14. Your Excellency, it is paramount you note that those who have nothing left to loose have nothing to fear, and are bound to remain dangerous to the safety of both the rich and the poor. We, as responsible youth leaders, cannot continue fold our arms while the state graduates into a state of complete lawlessness owing to poor welfarism and continued use of state powers to intimidate and enforce lockdown orders.

15. We wish you divine guidance for more fruitful efforts in your decision making.

16. Yours in youth development;

Signed:

The project which we are expecting to commence soon at the MAPOLY will serve as an eye opener for the institution and bring about innovation, such as the establishment of agricultural courses which gives us a more balancing power with Universities in the struggle against B.sc/HND dichotomy, also, the project prepares the Polytechnic ahead, should in future further turned to university thus; serving as a wake up call for the Polytechnic in harnessing more on human capital resources and many more.

These progressive and developmental benefits has propelled us to shower encomium to the commissioner for looking towards such direction;

Furthermore, while we expect that necessary activities which we gear up the commencement of the project, we urge the commissioner not to be distracted and to remain focus on this project and many more which we believe to come.

We also use this medium to categorically give our support where needed, towards ensuring the success of the project and any other developmental projects in the interest of the state and our students community.

The above for the interest of the state, students community and the Polytechnic sector.

In a bid to halt the continuous spread of the pandemic coronavirus which is otherwise known as COVID-19, the Dapo Abiodun-led Ogun State government has recently announced other  measures in combatting the deadly disease - which includes the prohibition of commercial riders from carrying more than one passenger.

In light of this, the Articulate Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN) which is fully committed to the agenda of "building our future together", has ordered commercial motorcycle riders to pay strict adherence to the guidelines given by the State government. The union noted that since health is wealth, the battle to oust the continuous spread of the disease should be a collective one.

In addition, commercial motorcyclists are advised to get their riding gloves and nose mask on while commuting passengers from and to their destinations. These guidelines must be firmly complied with as any rider caught in contrary acts shall be treated as an enemy of the State.

Covid-19 : AMORAN highlights safety tips for commercial motorcyclists in Ogun State

The Ogun State chapter of the Articulate Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN) has highlighted ways to stay safe from the pandemic disease - Coronavirus, also known as Covid-19. In a statement issued by the P R O, Otunba Taofeek Sokoya, the union maintained that "the primary cause of the spread of a disease is usually borne out negligence and lack of detailed information". Hence, the decision to educate riders on how to keep safe from the fast spreading virus.

Recall that the first coronavirus case in Nigeria was recorded on the 27th of February, 2020 when an Italian businessman, who was reportedly on a visit to Lafarge Africa PLC, Ewekoro, Ogun State was diagnosed with the disease and has since been taken to a Lagos State hospital for treatment.

While rolling out the safety tips, Otunba Taofeek Sokoya maintained that it is imperative for the union to educate and enlighten riders across the State on how to stay safe and avoid contacting the disease.

"It is no more a news that the deadly disease - Coronavirus is about bringing the world to her knees. AMORAN, as a union which prioritizes the wellbeing and safety of its riders would have preferred to organize a sensitization programme for riders in the State but for the ban on public gatherings by the State government in Ogun, which is of course one of the measures put in place to tackle the spread of the pandemic disease.

In light of this, it is advisable that our riders avoid large gatherings. It has been clearly stated that one of the ways to avoid coronavirus is by " avoiding being exposed" to the virus. Riders are therefore enjoined to shun popular hangouts that attract a lot of people. Other tips include; do not touch your face, carry your sanitizer with you if possible, clean and disinfect any commonly touched surface on your bike, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve when you cough or sneeze, put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards, avoid close contact with people who have symptoms of coronavirus, put on your riding gloves and helmet. We should all remember that prevention is better than cure. May Almighty Allah keep us far from all forms of disease".

He further noted that the union is still nosing for other means through which it can get this message passed across to a reasonable percentage of commercial motorcycle riders in Ogun State for enlightenment purpose.

REMO APC Youths back Adeleye, says certificate allegation a cheap blackmail

Alleged Certificate Forgery: Unnecessary Distraction From Good Governance - Remo APC Youths

The concerned Remo APC Youths under the able leadership of Comr. Abimbola Sijuade has condemned in strong terms, the recent malicious attack on Hon. Biyi Adeleye, the consultant to Ogun State Governor on political matters.

The attack, which bothers on 'forgery of academic credentials' did not go down well with the youths who described the whole story as 'a lie from the pit of hell'.  Reacting to the report on Wednesday, Mr. Abimbola Sijuade, the association rubbished the allegation levelled against Hon. Adeleye, noting that it is just a wishful thinking of the promoters of hatred.

He said, "The attention of Remo APC Youths have been drawn to a puerile report being syndicated via various media platforms that our reputable leader, Hon. Biyi Adeleye forged his results and therefore, not qualified to earn the given appointment. We believe that this is just a mere distraction coming from the quarters of the enemies of the high-profile politician.

We are not unaware that some bitter individuals have gathered themselves to continually throw ballistic missile at the him but of course, it is a ripe fruit that attracts the interest of all. The achievements of Hon. Biyi Adeleye somehow intimidates his politcal adversaries, hence, the constant attack on his person by them. Despite the quantum of evidence presented by the young achiever, it is shameful that some individuals are still hell bent on tarnishing his image.

Rather than joining hands with them to work for the progress of Ogun State, they have assigned a task of 'character defamation' to themselves due to their style of politics. Hon. Biyi Adeleye is a capable, responsible, qualified and competent young man whose capability is never in doubt. As a former LG Chairman and State lawmaker, it would be very unreasonable for any sane individual to think such a man who had represented his people at various levels would not possess genuine academic qualifications. How can he scale through all the process without having the required documents ?

The allegation is very demeaning but for the purpose of the general public, should have been thrown to the deepest hole of forgetfulness. We urge the those behind this to use their time and life for things more productive and stop abusing the opportunity granted to them in the media space", Arowolo said.

Finally, he urged Hon. Biyi Adeleye to ignore the mere attention seekers and settle down to serious business of governance like he said.
